FEBRUARY 5, 2010 g A sumptuous celebration to line the streets of Silver City this Saturday ~ubmitted by MRAClSilver City Ahhhh...it's the season of love, and that. too. means, choco- late and, for the l lth year, the Mimbres Region Arts Council's annual sumptuous gala -- Chocolate Fantasia to 'be held from 12-4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 13. So, bring your sweetheart, family and friends to tempt your taste buds and, of course, sample your way through this one-of-a-kind chocolate extravaganza. TJais year, MRAC has joined with local gourmet chef Rob ~onnoley of the Curious Kum- Quat to present "X'ocotal an evening of 'xtreme' indulgence" offering an invitation to enjoy an ;"xtravaganza' of savory and ~weet chocolate treats and St. Clair wines to cap off the Valentine's Celebration." This event will be hosted from 6:30-9 p.m. at Gallery 400/ Gila House, 400 N. Arizona St. and ~lso include music by.Andrew Dahl-Bredine. .- Each year.. Silver City resi- dents, as well as visitors from across the country, enjoy .stroll- [fig Silver City's historic streets to visit "chocolate stops" inside galleries and shops where gour- met confections, created by area "chocolatiers," are displayed and musicians serenade visitors. This year, 25 locations are included on the chocolate map. The Monsoon Puppet The- ater will again add to the family fun. with a "Running of the Pup- pets Mardi Gras Parade" down Bullard Street and up Texas Street ending at A-Space Gallery. Pup- pets for the event, organizer An- drew Teagarden said. will be cre- ated in the theme of Mardi Gras and a Spanish running of the bulls. "Bring your "krewe"!" he said. "It's Mardi Gras after all, and krewes of every walk are encour- aged.'" Teagarden explained that any interested individual is in- vited to join the parade with cos- tumes and musical instruments. "Think 'Running the Pup- pets' jesters, masks, sequins, feathers, etc. bulls, and other animals of the pasture" he s'aid. The parade will commence at 2 p.m. at the Curious Kumquat parking lot. located at the cor- ner of Bullard Street and Col- lege Avenue. If tasters just can't eat all 20 chocolates in a single after- noon, a $2 candy gift box can be purchased prior to the event atj the Mimbres Region Arts Council office or on Saturday zo,,zyo. A nice woman name~ Ruth E Williams was called home to be with her Lord and others who have gone on before. She was an amazing woman for having survivedyears of pain. We had a celebration for her on lanuary 29, 2010. It was a celebration because we sang songs, told stories about her. read scriptures, laughed and visited with each other. Of course there were tears. Two of her great-great-great-grandchildren, said how happy they were she had 2 legs now and could run. For those of you who were there. we thank you for coming. We hope it was a blessing for you and you got something out of We would like to thank the Church of Christ ladles for their endless help~ Sunshine Haven for the wonderful food and to Dorothy for all the paper supplies. Bullard St. Following the hours of chocolate-laden fun. tasters are invited to join the event spon- sors, the Mimbres Region Arts Council and Sparks Clinic to conclude the festivities at the closing ceremony where the coveted ahnuat "chocolate award" will be presented to the finest chocolatier. The closing award event will take place at 4:30 p.m. at Isaac's Bar and Grill on Bullard Street - when $100 and a great deal of cheering will be be- stowed upon- the winning chocolatier and "chocolate stop" site. Tickets for Chocolate Fan- tasia are limited. Each $20 ticket entitles the lucky buyer to 20 pieces of gourmet chocolate, chosen from among the 25 chocolate-serving sites. With each ticket, a map df participat- ing sites will be provided. Individuals can up-grade their Chocolate Fantasia ticket to include X'ocotal for just $30 more. X'ocotal tickets alone are $50 each in support of the arts council. A variety of St. Clair wines will be available at the no- host bar. There is no cost to visit the galleries or participate in the parade. Chocolate Fantasia is held each year to complement Valentine's Day season re- minding tasters that chocolate is sweet, but love is the most di- vine of all.
