Letters to the
Editor
The Hidalgo County Her-
aid urges readers to
voice their opin-
ions by writing in.
Letters can be
mailed to 212 E.
Motel Drive, Ste. B, or can be
e-mailed to
hcherald@aznex.net. Only let-
ters that are signed by the au-
thor will be considered for
publication. All letters that are
published should be consid-
ered the opinion of the author,
and not necessarily that of the
Hidalgo County Herald. Read-
ers are encouraged to practice
their First Amendment right of
free speech.
Who's side are we on?
Dear Editor:
If President Obama contin-
ues to spend money on the Pales-
tinian Authority, we will be sup-
porting Hamas. In northwest Pa-
kistan the Taliban is welcomed
and our soldiers are not, therefore
we should not be sending money
to the Pakistani governments un-
less this situation changes. We
shouldn't be taken advantage of
by people who don't like us very
much!
In Egypt, the Muslim Broth-
erhood took over just as A1
Quaeda might do in Libya. The
USA has already spent close to
200 million dollars of your tax
dollars on missiles without any
promise of oil in return from
Libya, thus adding to the $14.3
trillion dollar debt acquired in
large part during his presidency.
Recently, Saudi Arabia re-
leased a statement saying that
they were so fed up with Obama's
handling of the Egyptian situa-
tion and his lack of loyalty to
ousted President Babarac--a 30
year ally loyal to the USA and
Israel. In fact, they are trying to
do more business with China and
Russia and less with the United
States.
Saudi Arabia does not want
to be thrown under the bus like
Babarac if the pro-Iranian, anti
Israel forces sponsor a rebellion.
The Saudi's fear that when "Push
comes to Shove", Obama will
take sides with the rebels because
the situation in Saudi Arabia
would be very similar to or mir-
ror the Egyptian scenario. Saudi
Arabia is by far our number one
supplier of gas and oil, and has
been for many years.
Therefore our president has
weakened ties to two strong anti-
terrorism governments which in
turn strengthens pro-AI-Qaeda
and makes Israel an easy target
and less secure.
If we are spending money on
Syria, we will be supporting
Hezbollah and Iran, since Syria
is Iran's closest ally and
Hezbollah is greatly supported by
Iran. President Obama seems to
like the idea of a 9-11 ground zero
mosque being built in the heart
of the disaster area. Why there?
Why did Obama put a mora-
torium on drilling for oil in the
gulf and why did he and the
democrats reject to the USA drill-
ing for their own oil?
If Obama gets re-elected, we
could see gas prices well above
$6.00/gallon and less people
stopping over in Lordsburg and
elsewhere due to extremely high
gas prices.
Is Obama for the
Islamazation (more Mosques,
Shariah Law, etc) of America? Or
is loyalty a problem for him? Or
what?

Idiots
Dear Editor:
What a bunch of idiots. You
know back in the 60's and 70's
you could buy a car, take it off
the lot and drive it 120 mph with
air conditioning on and get 24 to
26 mpg on gas. Then in the gov-
ernments' infinite wisdom to

National Nurses Week to
be celebrated May 6-12
Submitted by HMSILordsburg
Every year, National Nurses Week focuses attention on the di-
verse ways America's 3.1 million registered nurses work to save lives
and to improve the health of millions of individuals. This year, the
American Nurses Association (ANA) has selected "Nurses Trusted to
Care" as the theme for 2011. The ANA supports and encourages Na-
tional Nurses Week recognition programs through the state and dis-
trict nurses associations, other specialty nursing organizations, edu-
cational facilities, and independent health care companies and insti-
tutions.
Traditionally, National Nurses Week is devoted to highlighting
the diverse ways in which registered nurses, who comprise the largest
health care profession, are working to improve health care. From bed-
side nursing in hospitals and long-term care facilities, primary medi-
cal care offices, to the halls of research institutions, state legislatures,
and Congress, the depth and breadth of the nursing profession is
meeting the expanding health care needs of American society.
Annually, National Nurses Week begins on May 6, marked as RN
Recognition Day, and ends on May 12, the birthday of Florence Night-
ingale, founder of nursing as a modem profession. During this week,
registered nurses at Hidalgo Medical Services will be honored.
the auto companies start putting
on all kinds of junk on the en-
gine. The gas mileage dropped
to 12 mpg. There was no way to
adjust them to get more. I had a
63 Chevy Bel Aire with a 327 high
performance engine, 3 speed
transmission. I got an average of
24 mpg driving 85 mph with the
air conditioning on. These new
vehicles are a piece of junk. 45
thousand mils the windows quit
working, the motor runs like a
locomotive, sometimes. Any-
body could work in the old 63
Chevy, but no one can work on
this new junk. I have had 4 me-
chanics look at a 99 dodge
Cummins, there it sits outside my
yard, won't start. It is worthless.
I have a 95 dodge Cummins with
348000 miles on it, I have spent
less than a thousand dollars for
repair on that old thing. But By
God it still runs, and takes us any-
place we want to go.
These new Lincoln,
Cadillacs, and Mercury Grand
Marquis usually run a long time
but the elec. windows suck!
People spend thousand of dollars
a year to repair a problem that
should not be a problem. Most
you don't even hear about unless
a blabber mouth like me spouts
off. Oh Well!
Talking about cars, a fella
asked your president about the
high gas prices. Obama more or
less told him if he didn't like it
buy a bicycle or a smaller car.
Your Prez flies all over the world
and uses more fuel in an hour than
I use all year, maybe two. But
he's the Prez and has to politic.
Today supposedly he is flying to
Baltimore and California, prob-
ably use 6 to 8 thousand gallons
of fuel--all for politics. Oh yeah,
he's always spouting about the
rich have to pay more. Well it
seems that the tax rate for the rich
is 35%. How come he and his
first lady only paid 27%? And
Master Biden only paid 23%.
Ain't they great? But I did hear
Joe B donated $5000 to charity.
That's good of him. Why did the
Prez only pay 27% when his share
should have been 35%? Oh yeah,
the pres was hollering about shut-
ting down the government, say-
ing that it would affect 800,000
non essential personal. Hum! Is
it just me or tell me why we have
800,000 non essential people
sucking money from the Federal
Government? I keep hearing that
bunch in Washington talking
about integrity WHAT, WHERE?
I ain't seen any yet! Tell me why
the prez threw our service men
and woman under the bus. That's
ROTTEN! All to play pil-o-tics.
And to all you so called Republi-
cans what happened to the 100
billion in cuts. I heard all you
got was 300 + million. Shame on
you for selling your country and
your souls for such a paltry
amount. When the CBO said
there was $250 billion in dual
projects doing the same thing

Van of Enchantment to visit
Lordsburg Schools May 18-20
Submitted by KIMBERLY MANN/
NMDCA
The Van of Enchantment, a
statewide museum outreach ve-
hicle operated by the New
Mexico Department of Cultural
Affairs, will present Trails and
Tales, a traveling exhibition, May
18-20 from 8:00am - 3:00pm at
the Lordsburg Elementary
Schools.
A mobile museum, the Van
of Enchantment is a converted RV
that tours New Mexico carrying
exhibitions and educational ma-
terial from the collections of the
state museums and monuments.
In addition to cabinets and draw-
ers filled with artifacts, the Van of
Enchantment brings its contents
to life with complementary ac-
tivities and audio-visual pro-
grams. There is never an admis-
sion fee for the Van of Enchant-
ment.
The Van of Enchantment's
current exhibition, Trails and
Tales, is the product of a partner-
ship between New Mexico De-
partment of Transportation and
two divisions of the Department
El Camino Real and the Old
Spanish Trail. Trails and Tales
brings to life the ancient trade
and journey routes of old New
Mexico.
Our hands-on exhibit will
allow visitors to touch authentic
and replica artifacts. Touch the
carved wood of a carreta wheel,
used by the Spanish settlers trav-
eling north to New Mexico along
E1 Camino Real. View a pack
saddle that carried goods from
New Mexico to California along
the Old Spanish Trail. Handle the
same type of peridot that was
traded and made into jewelry by
the people of Chaco Canyon.
We look forward to seeing
you on the Van of Enchantment
at the Lordsburg Elementary
Schools May 18-20, and tell all
your friends. See you there.
