All letters that are published should be consid- ered the opinion of the author, and not necessarily that of the Hidalgo County Herald. Read- ers are encouraged to practice their First Amendment right of free speech. W0nderwhy? Dear Editor: Did you ever wonder why Nancy Pelosi seems to have so much power in the House of Rep- resentatives although she is just the representative of a District in California. Harry Teague is the representative of a District in New Mexico, and he doesn't carry as much weight as Nancy Pelosi. Did you ever ask yourself why Nancy Pelosi has so much more sway than Harry Teague? Don't you think Harry. Teague, or Ron Paul, or any other congressman or woman should have as much power as Nancy Pelosi? You could argue that they have the same power, the power of ONE: One vote each. This is true. Did you ever ask yourself, 'Why do all the Democrats seem Courtesy photo Animas, NM, a very different place. Could it be the 'PARTY is more important than the State and District th e congressmen and women represent? Could it be that Democrat congressmen know if they do not toe the party line, they will not receive money from the Democrat National Commit- tee (Party), and same for the Re- publican National Committee (Party). Don't you just love that word? Was this the word Nancy Pelosi was talking about: PARTY. Reminds me of the good old cold war day and the USSR's communist PARTY. " I believe this is why the Re- publican and Democratic elitist to be voting the same way, and are against the Tea Party. Yes, all the Republicans seem to be .'Party is in the Tea, but you voting the same way. They all should know, tea party refers to come from various districts with different needs. They pass laws in Santa Fe without thinking how that law will apply to Hachita or THRNI00 00IOU! I would like to thank My Team for playing hard this weekend and not giving up. The girls from Deming you were a big help and are some darn good ball players hope to playlwith .... you girls again and all the guys as well. This win would not have been possible with out everyone on our team for giving there 110%.soaain. Thank You, _ Vanessa D. Six fires ranging from just under an acre to 75 acres in size have been reported since June 6 with more thunder- storms expected. The Wilderness Ranger Dis- trict (RD) in Mimbres, NM, re- ported the Apache and Aspen fires both located in the North Star Mesa area approximately 15 miles north of Mimbres. The Apache Fire is 2 acres in size and is showing no growth due to its locatiOn in last year's Meason Fire in the Gila Wilder- ness. Because of the low poten- tial for growth with only downed logs burning, the Apache Fire is being monitored by firefighters, according to District Ranger A1 Koss. The Aspen Fire, approxi- mately 75 acres in size, is lo- cated in the Aldo Leopold Wil- derness. One hotshot crew and four district firefighters are an action, an event that t0ok place in Boston, not to a stagnant of people. Now you know why people in the Republican Party are against people like Rand Paul an.d other candidates NOT en- dorsed by the RNC PARTY. They cannot be controlled. There are some who stand up to the Party. Those two candidates who were asked to step down by the Obama administration, I sa- lute them. They did not give into the PARTY. However, it does not mean they won't give in once elected. ..... ...... :: ..:.: .... When you vote., ask your- self: Will this candidate listen to me? Will this person answer my question rather than send letters which lays out the agenda already decided by the 'Party". Will this person vote his principles as stated ia the campaign, or will they bow t o Nancy Pelosi or Harry Reid, knowing this will guaran- tee campaign funds in the next election? Freedom has a price. Mary Snyder Hachita, NM PAID I]Y CANDIDATE fire. working to suppress the Most of the Aspen Fire's growth occurred June 6, due to hotter temperatures. On June 7, cloud cover and cooler temperatures minimized fire behavior, pro- viding support to firefighters with suppression efforts. Reserve RD reported the Pifion Fire at 40 acres in size burning in ponderosa pine. It is located 16 miles east of Reserve, NM. Thirty firefighters includ- ing one hotshot crew and one engine are working to suppress the Pifion Fire. The Quemado RD reported two fires. The Dry Lakes Fire at 3 acres in size is located 10 miles south of Quemado. Firefighters have responded to suppress the Dry Lakes Fire. The Barreras Fire is located about 17 miles south of Quemado, NM. At just under an acre in size, the Barreras fire has been controlled and called out. The Grouse fire, als0 lesg than an acre in size, is located approximately 11 miles east of Glenwood on the Glenwood RD. A hotshot crew responded and is working to suppress this fire. As a reminder, although the Gila National Forest is under no fire restrictions, the public is cautioned that conditions are dry and fire danger is high, so please be careful with fire.
