Valley Telephone Foun- dation awarded thirty-two recipi- ents scholarships totaling $57,000.00 along with Copper Valley Telephone which awarded fix, e recipients scholarships total- ing $5,000.00 for a grand total of scholarship funds of $62,000.00. Over the past decade, Valley Tele- phone Foundation has dispersed scholarship funds in excess of $500,000.00 and is committed to giving back to our communities by providing scholarships to fur- ther enrich future generations by supporting higher education. The . proceedings continued with veri- fication of the Election Proctor Report and Quorum of Mail-In Ballots, through the Presentation " of Reports from Committees, Re- ports of Officers, and the Report of the Election Proctor. The 2010/2011 Scholarship :' Grand Prize Winner, Beatrice Morales of San Simon, AZ, (left), is presented with the check for $1,000.00 by CEO and General Man- ' ager of Valley Telephone Cooperative, Steve Metts (right). announced the results of the Di- rector Elections. The results were as follows: George May Df Por- tal, AZ, re-elected for District #1, David Thompson of Suoizona, AZ, re-elected for District 2, and Joe Chapin of Bonita,.AZ, re- elected for District #3. The riaeeting floor ws then opened-up to member who wished to ask questions and/or to make comments. Only two mem- bers had questions whic were both related to an estimated timeframe of when they' would potentially be able to receive Valley's services within their re- mote locations; and on e other member who expressed glowing remarks regarding ValleY staff members who had provided ex- emplary service After the questions were an- swered and the comments ad- dressed, tickets were draw to se- lect door prize winners. There were twenty-two various prizes awarded, with the Grand Prize of $1,000.00 awarded tO Beatrice Morales of San Simon. The meet- ing adjourned and was followed by a delicious barbeque hncheo n prepared and served by the local FFA Chapter in the San'Simon High School cafeteria. (Linda) Health Fair held over weekend at SEC The Hidalgo County Health Consortium hosted its Community Health Fair on June 5th at the Lordsburg Special Events Cen- ter from 9-12 noon. Over twenty agencies participated by either handing out inform. tion about available programs in thejcounty, or by hosting an activity, Tons of informa- tion as well as free items like t-shirts, ice chests, totes, energy-saving light bulbs, baby gear and clothing, frisbees, sun- screens and chapsticks were all handed out at the fair. Over 170 community mem- bers visited the Fair. Hidalgo County's Suicide Prevention group, CARES, also hosted a Softball Tournament, which gar- nered eight teams, the last game being played at 9:00 p.m. Above, Healthy Start __ and at left, ICAN booths.
