HYRA.wraps up 2009 rodeo season Courtesy LESTI WEBSTER/ HYRA The Hidalgo Youth-Rodeo Asso- ciation held their last rodeo of the season on Thursday, July 23, 2009. They completed the sea- son with 60 contestants coming from Lordsburg, Animas. Hatchita, Separ, Silver City, Duncan. San Simon. Bowie. Willcox. And Benson. The HYRA offered the traditional bar- rels. poles, goat tying, and flag race as well as team roping, breakaway roping, tie down rop- ing, and chute dogging. Testing will resume in September. The first testing dates for the Hidalgo Learning Center will be September 8, 9 and 22. Patsy Chave'z,,our GED instructor, will resneinstruction on August 24. GED classes are on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 6 to 8 p.m. at the high school in room #2. If you are interested in GED instruction, you may call Patsy Chavez at 575-542-3320. Ages 3 and up are welcome. Activi- ties will include bible time crafts, snacks, games and mu- sic. The First Baptist Church in Animas VBS will be from 9:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. and Rodeo will run from 2:30 p.m.-5:30 p.m. Please feel free to join us for this Down Under fun and ad- venture. Sun Safety at HYRA The Hidalgo Youth Rodeo Association members gathered for a sun safety lesson provided by the Hidalgo Health Consortium. Following the lesson, each age group participated in a fun boot race with first and second place winners being awarded tee shirts provided by the Hidalgo Health Consortium.
