2 HIDALGO COUNTY HERALD FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 5, 2010 o 2010 Unofficial General Election Results Halloween Carnival held in Animas Families all over the community enjoyed a night of Halloween fun on Saturday, October 30th at the Animas Community Center. Kids enjoyed lots of games, in- cluding a ring toss, duck pond, face painting, and there was even a haunted house. After the games, the party moved out- side as kids went around col- lecting candy during the "Trunk orTreat".The night ended with a Halloween dance inside the Community Center where kids and'adults had a great time. Jr. 84a resi- dent of Fort Bayard, formerly of Deming, entered eternal rest on Tuesday, October 26, 2010. at Fort Bayard Medical Center. A graveside service was held at 11 o'clock in the morn- ing on Wednesday, November 3. 2010 at Fort Bayard National Cemetery with Deacon Bill Holguin officiating• Veteran's honors were accorded by local VFW and American Legion, and the Army National Guard Honor Guard. His request to be cremated is being honored at Baca's Silver City Crema- tory. Guy was born on January 6. 1926 in Ancon. Canal Zone to Guy Sr. and Jennie (Geddes) Johannes. He attended Balboa High School in Balboa, Canal Zone and then Peacock Military Academy in San Antonio. He then entered the United States Army in the summer of 1944 at Camp Roberts. Califor- nia. Upon completion of basic training he attended Paratroop Sbhool at Fort Benning, Geor- gia. After graduation he was sent overseas to Auxerres, France and assigned to the 13t~ Airborne Division. When WWII ended he was based at Fort Bragg, North Carolina un- til he was discharged and as- signed to the Army Reserve. The summer of 1951 saw the outbreak of the Korean War. As isthe case, the Army Reserve was activated and -after a short training period he was shipped to South Korea• He served first in the Field Artillery and then transferred to the 9'h Infantry. From there he re- turned to the United States and was honorably discharged. He earned numerous medals, including a Purple Heart. Guy attended several univers~- ties and attained a Bachelor of Sci- ence in Business Administration and a Master of Science in Busi- ness Education. He taught at many universities, including 7 years in the Department of Busi- ness at WNMU (1965-1972). He .enjoyed •photography, il- lustrating, painting, cartooning, writing, and reloading. He was active in hunting, fishing, horse- back riding, horse packing, ca- noeing, sailing, and competitive shooting. He will always be re- membered, among other things, for his horsemanship/cowboy lifestyle and military service. He is survived by two sons, Guy Johannes, Jr and Frank Olen Johannes both from,- Rodeo: stepsons. Freddy Wallace. Carl Austin, Kenn~y Roy and Russell' Don Taylor; grand: " children Guy IV. Jayke Dalton and Cedar Daw'n Johannes. Cody Dean Moore. and Johny Alex Johannes: special niece and nephew. Gordon and Roberta Reif of Florida: spe: cial friends.
