10 HIDALGO COUNTY HERALD FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 7 2014 Remembering Recently, surviving World War II veterans were recognized in the Hidalgo County Herald. These men and women were the focus of this year's Discover Hidalgo County's Golden Oldies award. Pictured here are the Hidalgo County residents (current and former) who served their country in World War II and were able to make the recognition ceremony on October 18, 2014. In the U.S., Veterans Day is'cel- ebrated November 11. This day is the anniversary of the signing of the armi- stice, which ended the World War I hos- tilities between the Allied nations and Germany in 1918. Veterans are thanked for their services to the United States on Veterans Day. Thank you to these, and all, Ameri- can veterans, for your service.
