HIDALGO COUNTY HERALD FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 12,2010 9 Thousands expected to flock to 23rd Annual Festival of Cranes' Nov. 16-21 Courtesy submission Nature enthusiasts and birders alike will be flying high as the "Festival of the Cranes" celebrates its 23rd year with six days of nature tours, wildlife art,. hikes, wild animal exhibits and workshops with over 117 events. The Festival is scheduled from November 16 through November 21, 2010 at Bosque Del Apache National Wildlife Refuge in the southwestern New Mexico city of Socorro. Mid-November through early February 'is the best time to observe birds Who are migrating south for the winter. Bosque del Apache hosts about three-quar= ters of the Rocky Mountain san- dhill crane population each win- ter, totaling approximately 15,000 birds. Other birds that make Bosque del Apache their temporary residence include: snow geese, Ross' geese, pintails, mallards and waterfowl, to name a few. At the Festival, Keynote speaker and renowned photogra- pher with National Geographic, Joel Sartore, will share two de- cades of stories and knowledge about the business of nature pho- tdgraphy. Sartore has contributed to such magazines as Time, Life, Newsweek and more. His keynote speech is scheduled for 8 p.m. on Thursday, November 18 at the Macey Center. What an amazing week for us at Sunshine Haven... we continue to grow census and we received some wonder- ful news as well. Sunshine Haven has received its re-certification for Medicare A! This means we will now also be accepting and admitting skilled nurs- ing patients at our facility. Our corporate, regional and in-house management and staff have been working diligently for the last couple of years for this moment, and no one more than our very own staff. I will have a full story submitted to the Herald next week. Join me in congratulating the management and staff at Sunshine Haven on the great news. We have had several corporate visitors come to Lordsburg to visit bur facility. This includes our Chief Financial Officer Ryan Harrington and our Regional Business Development Director Jeremy Averella. In other great news, we have successfully opened up or 100 Wing and are ready to bring in more xesidents right away. Also we will be making some improvements to our facility's roof and to the interior of our facility as well. As we busy ourselves with making our facility One that this com- munity can be more than proud of, life continues for our fine residents at Sunshine Haven. With the holiday season upon us we are preparing for our annual Resident/Family and Staff Thanksgiving Dinner to be held on Thurs- day, November 18. We always look forward to sharing this time with our residents and their families.
